P300 to P1,500 a Month: The AI Stack Any PH Small Business Can Actually Afford

Not all AI costs millions

There’s a version of AI built for big corporations with massive compute budgets. That’s not yours — and you don’t need it. BusinessWorld columnist Marvin Tort made the case this week for what he calls “Small AI”: practical, low-cost tools that run on any laptop, solve specific problems, and cost ₱300 to ₱1,500 a month. For most small business owners, that’s the stack worth building.

The goal isn’t to replace your team. It’s to automate the repetitive parts of your week so you and your staff can focus on the work that actually needs a human.

Eight tasks you can hand off to AI starting today

  • Proposal drafts — describe your service and the client’s problem; get a solid first draft in under two minutes
  • Meeting summaries — paste your notes or a voice memo transcript; extract action items and decisions automatically
  • Customer inquiry replies — feed the tool your FAQ and product info; let it handle the repetitive questions on Messenger or email
  • Inventory reports — paste your stock count; get a clean summary with low-stock flags and reorder suggestions
  • Sales analysis — upload a month of data; ask which products are moving and which are sitting
  • Message translation — English to Filipino or the reverse, in your brand voice, in seconds
  • Internal reports — weekly status updates, supplier briefings, team summaries
  • FAQ creation — turn your existing customer replies into a clean FAQ for your website or Messenger bot

What to use at each price point

At ₱0: Gemini (gemini.google.com) and Meta AI — available directly inside WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger — handle drafting, customer replies, and basic summaries. No card, no sign-up friction.

At ₱300–600/month: ChatGPT Free and Claude.ai Free cover most daily tasks with usage limits. Good for one to two hours of active use per day.

At ₱1,100–1,500/month: ChatGPT Plus (around ₱1,100) or Claude.ai Pro (₱1,160) unlock unlimited daily use, longer documents, image uploads, and data analysis. Worth it if AI is replacing two or more hours of work per day.

The stat that should push you to start

A Microsoft and LinkedIn survey of 31,000 workers found that 4 out of 5 SME employees already use AI tools their employer never approved. Your staff may already be doing this on their own phones. The question isn’t whether to start — it’s whether you’re the one choosing the tools and setting the rules.

One way to start this week

Pick the task on this list you hate the most. Spend 30 minutes testing it on the free tier of ChatGPT or Gemini. If it saves you 30 minutes of work, you’ve already covered a month’s subscription. Start there.
