Materials Science AI Evaluation Expert
About the role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a Materials Science AI Evaluation Expert to author original, executable scientific-computing problems for an AI evaluation benchmark, drawing on semiconductor materials and molecular modeling expertise. This is a six-week, worldwide remote contract at $70/hour, 20+ hours per week, open to applicants globally.
What you'll do
- Source scientific material from papers, Kaggle datasets, open-source repositories, or original scenarios.
- Write scientific prompts and create executable, coding-focused research problems.
- Define rigorous grading criteria for judging AI-generated solutions.
- Calibrate tasks against frontier AI models so they are neither too easy nor unsolvable.
- Use a pull-request workflow with automated quality checks to refine tasks.
Requirements
- PhD in materials science, materials engineering, applied physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated depth in semiconductor materials and molecular modeling.
- Working proficiency in Python, R, or another relevant scientific-computing language.
- Comfort with Git/GitHub, Docker, pull-request workflows, and automated checks.
- Peer-reviewed publications and research-engineering experience helpful.
