Research Manager, Multimodal Generative AI — Runway
About the role
Lead a team of research scientists advancing Runway's core foundation models for video and multi-modal generation. You'll set the research agenda, recruit top talent, and create the conditions for the team to publish state-of-the-art results while shipping production-quality generative models to Runway's creative platform.
What you'll do
- Define and execute the research roadmap for Runway's foundation models — video generation, multi-modal understanding, and related capabilities
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of research scientists; create a culture of scientific rigor and fast iteration
- Collaborate with engineering and product to translate research breakthroughs into shipped model capabilities
- Represent Runway's research externally through publications, conference presentations, and collaboration with the broader AI research community
Requirements
- 5+ years of research experience in deep learning with 2+ years managing research teams
- Deep expertise in generative models, video/image synthesis, or related fields — ideally with a strong publication record
- Track record of leading teams that publish impactful research AND ship production models
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills; able to translate between research, engineering, and product
