Accounting Production Manager (AI-Native)
About the role
This role owns end-to-end production for the offshore delivery team: job scheduling, workflow, capacity allocation, WIP management, quality control and turnaround, reporting directly to the Brisbane principal. The work is compliance-led and business-weighted (roughly 90 percent business services and business tax), with a genuine, non-optional requirement for hands-on SMSF exposure. Beyond compliance, this person will draw on the team for advisory support, management reporting, financial modelling, and R&D tax incentive work, on a growth basis for those who show the aptitude and appetite for it. This is a hybrid, Manila-based role: 3 days in the office, 2 from home.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end production for the offshore delivery team: job scheduling, workflow, capacity allocation, WIP management, quality control and turnaround
- Act as the technical escalation point across the full Australian compliance suite, business and SMSF, reviewing work prepared by the team to review-ready standard
- Run the job pipeline against SLAs and hit agreed turnaround targets
- Review management reports and financial models produced by the team, not just compliance files
- Use AI to compress preparation and review time, and help build AI-driven workflows across the team, not just within individual jobs
- Hold the team accountable to quality and turnaround standards, with strong written English as the direct link to the Brisbane principal
- From time to time, support advisory work: monthly and quarterly management reporting packs and commentary, financial modelling (budgets, cash flow and three-way forecasts, scenario work), and R&D tax incentive workpapers, training provided, not expected on arrival
Requirements
- 8+ years in Australian accounting, including at least 3 years managing a production or delivery team
- CPA, CA or equivalent (Philippine CPA acceptable)
- Australian experience only: hands-on Australian tax and compliance experience from an Australian accounting practice or an Australian-facing offshore team. Not US, UK, or Canadian experience
- Technical depth across company, trust and partnership tax returns; financial statements; individual returns including business and investment schedules; BAS, IAS, GST, PAYG withholding and instalments; Division 7A; trust distributions, losses and family trust elections; CGT including small business concessions; company loss carry-forward and continuity of ownership testing; FBT; STP Phase 2; superannuation guarantee; TPAR; payroll tax and workers compensation; and ASIC annual reviews and company secretarial work
- Hands-on SMSF exposure: fund annual returns and financial statements, member statements and contributions/cap monitoring, pensions and TBAR reporting, and working with an external auditor through to signed audit
- Enough breadth and speed across both business and SMSF work to take on any Australian compliance job and bring it to review-ready without needing to hand it off
- Proven experience running a job pipeline against SLAs and hitting them
- Deep Xero and Xero Practice Manager experience. Familiarity with Ignition, HubSpot, Microsoft 365, Slack, and SMSF platforms such as BGL Simple Fund 360 or Class Super is a plus
- AI-native: demonstrable use of AI in day-to-day work, process automation, prompt design, using AI to compress preparation and review time, with specific examples to speak to at interview
- Strong written English and the confidence to hold a team to account
- Based in Metro Manila or willing to relocate, within a realistic commute, and able to commit to 3 in-office days per week
