CAD Specialist AI Trainer (Parametric Modeling)
About the role
Mechanical designers with parametric CAD experience, such as SolidWorks, can help train AI by building and reviewing 3D models of parts and assemblies. The project focuses on FreeCAD, and your CAD skills carry over. Prior FreeCAD experience is ideal but AI experience is not needed. Remote contract work with flexible hours. What you'll do
- Build fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies from written briefs, to help train AI
- Edit existing parametric models to meet new requirements and document each change
- Review models for dimensional accuracy, tolerances and manufacturability
- Apply design for manufacturing knowledge across injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining and casting
- Turn design intent into clear, structured CAD data for AI training
- Share written reports and verbal updates with project coordinators
Requirements
- 4+ years of parametric CAD experience in SolidWorks, FreeCAD, Fusion 360 or Autodesk Inventor for editing, and 10+ years for creating complex assemblies
- Practical use of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 or an equivalent standard in manufacturing
- Experience with at least two manufacturing methods: injection molding, sheet metal, CNC or casting and forging
- Current, active work in mechanical or industrial CAD modeling
- Strong written and verbal communication with clear project documentation
- Nice to have: reverse engineering such as scan to CAD, assembly level modeling, and scripting with Python, iLogic or VBA
