Philippines Ranks 5th in AI Outsourcing Readiness -- But the Education Pipeline Is Falling Behind

A mixed report card -- and what it means for you

A new global index ranked the Philippines 5th out of 25 major outsourcing destinations in AI readiness. In one category, Filipino workers are genuinely world-class. But the same report flags a gap that could erode that edge quickly.

The 2026 Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index, released by management consultancy Ataraxis, gave the Philippines a composite score of 69.05 out of 100. Ahead of us: India (84.55), Brazil (76.1), Malaysia (75.65), and Hungary (69.1 -- barely 0.05 points ahead).

Where Filipino workers genuinely outperform

Workforce AI literacy: 76 out of 100. That ties the Philippines with Brazil for 2nd place globally -- behind only India. We are one of only two countries outside India to score above 70 here. Enterprise AI adoption came in at 71, ahead of Hungary's 67.

In plain terms: Filipino workers are already using AI on the job. The tools are out there; people are picking them up without being told to.

The number that should worry everyone

AI education pipeline: 52 out of 100. That puts the Philippines 15th among 25 destinations -- and dead last among the top-5 ranked countries. Malaysia scored 84. India scored 83. Brazil and Hungary both scored 69. The Philippines trails every other top-5 country by at least 17 points.

Within Southeast Asia, the Philippines ranks 2nd behind Malaysia (a 6.6-point gap) and is 8 points ahead of Indonesia (61.05).

What this means if you work in BPO or run your own business

The good news: your AI skills are already a competitive advantage. The bad news: the pipeline to train more workers is not keeping pace. That means demand for AI-skilled Filipinos will rise faster than supply -- which is an opportunity for anyone who upskills now rather than waiting.

• Get certified. Google AI Essentials and Microsoft AI Skills Navigator are both free and employer-recognized. One weekend is enough to finish either.
• Build a visible portfolio. Employers and clients cannot see your AI literacy score -- but they can see a workflow you automated or a report you turned around in half the usual time.
• Teach someone. Anyone who can train others in AI skills -- even informally -- is positioned for a second income stream as companies race to fill this gap.
