Senior Systems Engineer/Automation Engineer
About the role
The Data & Systems Engineer plays a critical role in helping to design, build, and maintain robust systems, automations, and integrations that underpin our operations. This role is responsible for translating identified business inefficiencies into technical solutions, and implementing practical systems that improve productivity, accuracy, and scalability across the business. Working closely with the Head of Brand & Growth and Chief Operational Officer, this role supports our philosophy of making the business better, not bigger. The Data & Systems Engineer acts as our internal point of ownership for technology, automation, AI applications, system integrations, Excel-based pricing tools, and IT coordination, bridging business needs with technical execution.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain automation across CRM, finance, operations, and project delivery systems to reduce manual work
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement solutions that improve speed, accuracy, and consistency
- Explore and prototype practical AI use cases — pricing logic, data validation, scheduling, and task prioritisation
- Own integrations between HubSpot, Excel-based pricing tools, Xero, and other finance systems, keeping data consistent across platforms
- Take ownership of all Excel-based pricing, costing, and estimation spreadsheets — formulas, structure, version control, and validation
- Work toward deeper Excel–HubSpot integration to streamline quoting, approvals, and reporting
- Act as internal technology lead, liaising with the external IT provider on support, upgrades, and security
- Help shape the short- and long-term technology and systems roadmap
- Partner with the Head of Brand & Growth and COO to identify bottlenecks and build solutions end-to-end
- Collaborate across sales, estimating, projects, production, factory, and finance to turn business challenges into implemented solutions
Requirements
- Experience in systems engineering, automation, or software development roles
- Strong capability in Excel (advanced formulas, logic modelling, data validation)
- Experience working with CRMs (HubSpot preferred), APIs, and system integrations
- Understanding of automation tools, workflows, and AI concepts in a business context
- Comfortable working across both technical and operational environments
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, implementer mindset
