Machine Learning Engineer Intern (100% Remote Worldwide)
About the role
Join Tether's Brain & AI team (Tether Evolution division) for a 3–6 month fully remote internship building AI models for brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. You will develop encoding and decoding models to interpret neural activity using deep learning, generative models, and representation learning — at the forefront of AI and neuroscience research.
What you'll do
- Develop and evaluate scalable deep learning algorithms for brain decoding, focusing on generative modeling and representation learning of neural signals
- Build encoding and decoding models that interpret brain activity from neuroimaging data (fMRI, EEG, MEG) for real-world BCI applications
- Adapt machine learning and neural network algorithms for distributed GPU clusters; maintain high code quality and automation standards
- Collaborate with data scientists to identify data processing bottlenecks and improve pipeline performance
- Write and revise research papers; communicate and disseminate experimental results across the team
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Physics, Math, Neuroscience, or another quantitative field
- 1+ years of industry or research experience; strong Python programming skills with PyTorch for machine learning algorithm development
- Experience in deep learning techniques including supervised, semi-supervised, self-supervised learning, and/or generative modeling
- Scientific background with ability to formulate and test novel hypotheses, draw conclusions from experiments, and manage unstructured datasets
- Preferred: hands-on experience training/fine-tuning LLMs (Llama, GPT) or diffusion models; familiarity with neuroscience concepts or neural recording data (fMRI, EEG, MEG, ECoG)
