MCP Server Software Engineer
About the role
OpenTrain AI is hiring a freelance Software Engineer to build and ship Python MCP servers for a sandbox-based AI training environment. The role covers backend development, application integration, and validating deployments so contributor tasks run reliably on OpenTrain's platform. It's a part-time remote contract expecting 20+ hours per week.
What you'll do
- Build MCP servers in Python using FastMCP.
- Integrate web or desktop applications into sandbox environments.
- Work with APIs, Docker, Linux environments, and service configuration.
- Implement populate and snapshot hooks for application state management.
- Test applications locally and investigate build, runtime, and permission issues.
- Validate applications against platform deployment and quality requirements.
Requirements
- Strong Python programming ability
- Experience with APIs, backend systems, and technical debugging
- Familiarity with Docker and Linux-based local testing workflows
- Ability to configure services and work with deployment pipelines
- Experience integrating web or desktop applications
