Pure Mathematics Specialist (Lean 4) — Freelance AI Trainer Project
About the role
Meridial (powered by Invisible Technologies) is seeking PhD-level pure mathematicians with Lean 4 proficiency to help train AI on rigorous proof-based reasoning. You’ll construct and evaluate complex proofs across probability theory, measure theory, real and functional analysis, abstract algebra, and category theory — identify subtle conceptual failures in AI reasoning, translate material into Lean 4 syntax, and help build AI that genuinely understands the deep structures of modern mathematics. Remote, worldwide-open, $35–$65/hr.
What you'll do
- Construct and evaluate complex mathematical proofs across probability theory, measure theory, real and functional analysis, optimization, abstract algebra, and category theory — assessing AI reasoning for correctness and rigor
- Identify subtle conceptual or logical failures in AI-generated proofs; substantiate the mathematical reasoning behind each assessment with precise justification
- Translate mathematical material into Lean 4 syntax (.lean files), verifying formal proof correctness and building structured proof corpora for AI training
- Collaborate with the team to refine prompts, evaluation frameworks, and mathematical reasoning benchmarks to improve AI proof quality
Requirements
- In-progress or recently completed PhD in pure mathematics, or current PostDoc experience in a closely related theoretical field; strong command of advanced core areas required
- Fluency in Lean 4 (the proof assistant and programming language) is required — candidates must be comfortable building formal proofs in .lean syntax
- Comfort with advanced topics including Markov’s and Chebyshev’s inequalities, Hoeffding bounds, convergence theorems, the Carathéodory extension theorem, the Riesz representation theorem, Banach–Alaoglu, Lax–Milgram, Van Kampen’s theorem, and the Yoneda embedding
- Clear, metacognitive communication — ability to articulate reasoning and proof strategies explicitly and precisely
