Staff AI / ML Engineer - Recommendations, Quora (Remote)
About the role
Quora is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer focused on recommendation systems (feed, notifications, digest emails, A2A) for their remote team. The Philippines is explicitly listed as an eligible country. This role requires availability during Quora coordination hours (Mon-Fri 9am-3pm Pacific Time / 1-7am PHT). You will drive high-impact advances in ranking systems and build ML abstractions that other engineers depend on.
What you'll do
- Build and improve ML recommendation systems including feed, notifications, digest emails, and A2A across Quora's 300M+ user platform.
- Identify new opportunities to apply machine learning throughout the Quora product.
- Take end-to-end ownership of ML systems: data pipelines, candidate extraction, feature engineering, model training, and production integration.
- Develop tools and abstractions that empower other engineers to build recommendation features.
- Collaborate with ML engineers to implement algorithms and systems efficiently at scale.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience in machine learning.
- 3+ years of professional experience working on recommendation systems.
- Strong understanding of mathematical foundations of ML algorithms.
- Experience building end-to-end machine learning systems.
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
- Preferred: 3+ years writing Python or C++ code; experience leading large-scale multi-engineer projects.
