Research Engineer (AI Video Systems)
About the role
Runway is hiring a Research Engineer to build the systems and infrastructure enabling its research team to train, evaluate, and iterate on frontier AI video generation and world models. This role sits at the intersection of research and engineering, translating cutting-edge ideas into reproducible, scalable implementations across Runway’s Gen-4 and General World Model families.
What you'll do
- Implement novel model architectures and training techniques proposed by research scientists.
- Build evaluation and benchmarking systems for video generation quality, temporal consistency, and physics plausibility.
- Maintain and extend Runway’s core model training codebase for high velocity iteration.
- Collaborate with GPU performance and datasets engineers on end-to-end training efficiency.
- Contribute to research papers and technical reports alongside the science team.
Requirements
- Strong ML engineering background with hands-on experience in model training, evaluation, and debugging.
- Proficiency in PyTorch and modern deep learning best practices.
- Experience training large-scale models on multi-node GPU clusters.
- Ability to read, implement, and extend research papers quickly.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals (clean code, testing, reproducibility).
