AI Enablement & Data Engineer
About the role
Our client is a New Zealand-based supply chain and technology solutions company helping organisations adopt AI in practical, outcome-focused ways. They are looking for an intermediate-to-senior engineer to sit at the intersection of AI, data, and people — helping their customers' teams use AI to do real data work, and standing up natural-language analytics so executives can ask questions of their data directly. This is not a traditional report-building BI role. The focus is enabling people and data for AI: coaching client analysts and leaders to use AI tools, preparing and modelling data with AI assistance, and setting up trusted natural-language interfaces to Snowflake (or similar). Strong backend data and integration skills are assumed — they are the foundation, not the headline. You will also support our client's own delivery work — the hands-on data and integration engineering behind their customer projects.
What you'll do
- Help people get started with AI
- Show selected client leaders and early adopters what is genuinely possible with AI today
- Get them set up and confident, and support them through their first ambitious AI projects
- Act as a practical guide and coach, not just a builder
- Work with analysts to AI-enable their data
- Partner with client analysts to use AI to map, profile, and clean their data
- Build the integrations needed to bring data together for modelling
- Use AI to accelerate data modelling — mapping source data into well-structured, trusted models
- Stand up natural-language analytics for executives
- Set up natural-language query interfaces over Snowflake (or similar) — e.g. Snowflake Cortex Analyst and semantic models
- Verify and validate that natural-language results are accurate and trustworthy, and tune the semantic layer so executives can rely on them
- Onboard those executives so they can self-serve answers from their own data
- Support our client's delivery
- Contribute to our client's customer engagements — data mapping, cleansing, integration, and modelling
- Use AI-augmented methods to deliver this work faster and to a high standard
Requirements
- Highly Regarded
- Snowflake Cortex (Analyst / Search) or other natural-language-to-SQL or semantic-layer experience
- dbt and Python
- Experience setting up or evaluating self-service / natural-language analytics for non-technical users
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Experience coaching or enabling others to adopt new tools — not just delivering for them
