Safety Engineer (AI Systems)
About the role
ElevenLabs is seeking an AI Safety Engineer to architect and operate the automated moderation and guardrail systems that protect its multimodal AI platform and users at scale. You'll build production-grade safety infrastructure from the ground up — bridging ML research and backend systems to deploy content moderation, abuse detection, and agentic guardrails. The role is fully remote and can be executed from anywhere globally, including the Philippines.
What you'll do
- Design and build scalable backend infrastructure for content moderation, abuse detection, and AI agent guardrails, deploying ML models into production systems
- Architect robust APIs, data pipelines, and service architectures supporting real-time and batch moderation workflows
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability systems; establish SLIs, SLOs, and performance benchmarks for safety systems
- Partner with ML engineers to translate safety research models into production-ready systems integrated across ElevenLabs' product suite
- Drive technical decisions and contribute to the safety roadmap for next-generation platform guardrails built for scale and precision
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend software engineering experience building production systems at scale
- Strong production backend skills: distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, and Python (async Python, backend frameworks)
- Cloud infrastructure proficiency: AWS/GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
- Experience building observable systems with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and establishing SLIs/SLOs
- Track record of taking products from 0→1 including deploying or working alongside ML/AI systems in production
